Hold your event here
Rental guide
Birthday parties, wedding receptions, lectures and City events have all been held at MAX, among the art in a restored 1916 railway station. Here is what it costs, what your booking includes and how to make it yours.
What it costs
Not a MAX member
$200
For a three-hour event.
MAX members
$150
For a three-hour event, or 20% of your art sales at the event, up to $150.
Longer events
$50 an hour
For each hour past the first three, up to twelve hours in all.
A $75 deposit holds your date. It is not refundable, and it is paid when you book. Dates open a week ahead. The card you pay it with is kept, and the rest of the fee is charged to it after your event.
What your booking includes
The venue is yours for the event, with an hour before it to set up and an hour after it to clear away, at no extra charge. Events can run any time between 8 am and 11 pm, and you can book as far as a year ahead.
The art stays on the walls: your guests celebrate in a working gallery. Work hanging in a show can't be moved, taken down, swapped out or covered, because each show is a MAX curator's vision. How many guests fit, and how the room can be arranged, depends on the event, so tell us your numbers and we will show you on a tour.
On the day, someone from MAX meets you at the building to open up and show you how to close. After that the venue is all yours: there's no setup help and no MAX staff on site during your event. Our resident artists may be working in their studios. They won't disturb you, and you're welcome to drop in on them.
The agreement, in short
You sign MAX's Facility Rental Agreement online when you book. In it you agree to be responsible for your guests while they are here, to take away everything you brought and all the trash, and to cover any damage done during your event.

Questions people ask
Which parts of the building do we get?
All of the venue, whichever date and time you book: Salons A, B and C, the Lounge and the Platform. When you book, tell us which areas you plan to use so we can plan with you. The resident artists' studios are their own workspaces.
Can we move the art?
No. There may be a show hanging while you're here, and work hanging in a show can't be moved, taken down, swapped out or covered. Each show is a MAX curator's vision, so please plan your layout around it. A walkthrough is the easiest way to see what will be on the walls.
Will anyone from MAX be there?
Someone from MAX meets you at the building when your time starts, opens up and shows you how to close. After that the venue is all yours. There's no setup help and no MAX staff on site during your event, so bring the crew you need.
Our resident artists may be working in their studios. They won't disturb you, but you're welcome to drop in, say hello and see what they're working on.
Can we serve alcohol?
Yes! If the drinks are free, with no money tied to them in any way, you can serve them yourself. Selling is different: Florida law treats any money changing hands for drinks as a sale, and a sale needs a license. That includes a cash bar, drink tickets, a cover charge, or a ticket or donation that comes with drinks.
To sell drinks, the simplest way is to have a licensed caterer or bar service serve for you. They bring their own license and insurance. If you're a nonprofit, charitable or civic organization, you can instead get a temporary permit from the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. Apply at least seven days before your event, and send MAX the permit and proof of liability insurance that covers alcohol before the day.
Can we see the space or get help planning?
Yes to both. Book a walkthrough to plan how you'll use the space, and bring anyone who's helping. Once you've booked, Kiah Manning, our programs coordinator, offers a free event planning consultation.
When do we pay the rest, and what if we cancel?
The $75 deposit holds your date, and the rest of the fee is charged to the same card after your rental. The deposit isn't refundable, including if you cancel.
Ready when you are
Choose a date on MAX's own calendar, sign the agreement and pay the deposit in one go. Want to see the space first? Book a tour, weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm.
